The references for these values can be found in the No Child Left Behind book. The figures are overly positive for the FastForWord intervention as it employs research conducted by FastForWord. Three independent studies failed to find any effect. Phonic interventions can have an effect on phonic ability, but don’t appear to improve reading comprehension.
Remediations for Traumatic Brain Injured Patient
The following is an explanation of standard deviations and the normal bell curve distribution of abilities. Many abilities/traits can be measured. There is a normal distribution of abilities which generally following a bell curve distribution. The norm is indicated at the top of the curve. About 68% of individuals will fall within plus one or minus one standard deviations from that norm value. About 95% will fall within plus two or minus two standard deviations from that norm value.
